My 1956 Chevy 3100 Build Story

Hey everyone,

My name’s William Estrada and I wanted to share a little background on my 1956 Chevy 3100.

I bought the truck back in April of 2011. When I first got it, it was pretty straightforward, a Chevy small-block 350 backed by a 700R4 transmission. The plan was just to get it running and enjoy it.

Then things changed.

I ended up having an engine fire, and that basically pushed me into starting over and doing the truck the way I really wanted to from the ground up.

Chassis & Suspension

After that, I went with a TCI full chassis, including a four-link rear and independent front suspension. That decision completely transformed the direction of the build and really set the truck up to handle the way I wanted.

Fuel System Upgrade

For the fuel system, I ran a CPP gas tank and fuel pump kit, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier with it. Everything came in one complete kit, was well thought out, and bolted right in.

What really impressed me was that even with the TCI chassis, I didn’t have to modify anything. The CPP setup bolted right up, no cutting, no headaches, no issues at all. That was a big win in my book.

Built at Home

All of the work was done in my garage, with the help of a good buddy of mine, Kevin Kline. It wasn’t a rushed build, just taking our time, figuring things out, and enjoying the process.

Driving It

I like going out to autocross tracks from time to time. I don’t race competitively, but I do photography work for racing events, and every now and then they’ll let me take the truck out for a run. The chassis and suspension really shine there.

The truck still has a lot of potential, and I’m looking forward to continuing to dial it in.

At the end of the day, it’s not just a project—it’s my truck, and I love driving it.

Thanks for checking it out.
