Cold Pump

Steering seems cold for a few minutes after start up,after warmed up steers great. Fluid is full and belt tight what else to check ?

What pump and steering box are you running?

If the fluid is full and the belt is tight, first make sure you’re using the correct power steering fluid, not Dexron or ATF . Wrong fluid can cause stiff steering until it warms up.

If the fluid is correct, cold stiffness that improves when warm is commonly a sign the gear box is starting to wear internally.

If I’m understanding this correctly, you have a 1963 Impala with no power steering assist on startup. After a few minutes you get good power steering, and then it works fine the rest of the day. Once it sits all night, the same problem happens again.

If that’s the case, I would suspect the gearbox is going bad.
