Classic Performance Products (CPP) recently showcased a jaw-dropping restomod of a 1966 Pontiac GTO Convertible at SEMA, brought to life by Original Parts Group (OPGI). This build combines timeless styling with modern power and stopping prowess—catch every step in their video “CPP Featured SEMA Vehicle | 1966 Pontiac GTO.”

🏛️ A Brief History: The Birth of the GTO

The Pontiac GTO is often credited with igniting the muscle-car craze of the 1960s. Originally introduced in 1963 as an optional performance package on the Tempest LeMans, by 1966 the GTO stood on its own as a full model—boasting curvaceous “Coke-bottle” styling, a 389 cid V8, and an unforgettable roar.

Build Overview: OPGI’s Restomod Vision

OPGI set out to honor the GTO’s heritage while dramatically modernizing its performance. Starting with a rust-free shell, the car was media-blasted and sent to Santini Paint & Body in Westminster, CA, for body repairs and a striking new finish. From there, the powertrain, chassis, and braking systems were completely overhauled to deliver today’s driving thrills.

🔧 Under the Hood: LS Engine Install Kit

At the heart of the restomod is CPP’s LS Engine Installation Kit, which simplifies fitting a compact, high-power LS3 crate engine into the original GTO frame. The kit includes:
  • Engine mounts & crossmember tailored for a perfect fit
  • Ceramic-coated headers and steering gearbox mounts
  • Magnaflow Street Series exhaust with head-pipe adapters for an aggressive tone

🛑 Stopping Power: CPP 500 Series Sport-Ratio Brake Kit

No restomod is complete without modern brakes. OPGI equipped the GTO with CPP’s 500 Series Sport-Ratio Power Brake Kit, featuring:
  • Aluminum master cylinder & booster for consistent pedal feel
  • Tracker-series calipers & rotors sized for the GTO’s weight
  • Sport-tuned bias to balance vintage feel with modern safety

🏁 Chassis & Suspension Enhancements

To match the power and brakes, the suspension was upgraded with:
  • CPP Mustang II IFS kit for precise steering and handling
  • Adjustable coil-overs to dial in ride height and damping
  • Hotchkis trailing arms to maintain rear geometry

🌟 Showstopping Reveal at SEMA

At the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas, OPGI’s GTO drew crowds on the CPP booth floor. Judges praised the seamless integration of modern components into a classic silhouette, earning accolades for both craftsmanship and creativity.
